Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic or functional eyelid surgery that removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It helps to improve vision obstruction, reduce under-eye bags, and create a more youthful, refreshed look.

Types of Blepharoplasty:

  1. Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty – Removes sagging skin that may impair vision or cause a tired appearance.

  2. Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty – Reduces puffiness, wrinkles, and under-eye bags.

  3. Double Eyelid Surgery – Common in East Asian patients, creating a defined upper eyelid crease.

  4. Functional Blepharoplasty – Performed to correct vision impairment due to droopy eyelids (may be covered by insurance).

  • Incision Placement:

    • Upper eyelid: Natural crease of the eyelid (scar is hidden).

    • Lower eyelid: Inside the eyelid (transconjunctival) or just below the lashes.

  • Recovery Time:

    • Swelling and bruising last 1-2 weeks.

    • Most patients return to work within 7-10 days.

    • Full healing takes 4-6 weeks.

Considerations:

  • Temporary swelling, bruising, or dry eyes.

  • Results can last 10+ years, but aging continues naturally.
